Exhibitions at MAMUZ
An adventure museum full of stories
MAMUZ Schloss Asparn/Zaya turns 40,000 years of human history into an experience! With its interactive and modern design, the exhibition in the castle provides a comprehensive insight into prehistory, early history and medieval archaeology. The exhibition includes original exhibits that impress with their uniqueness and their stories. The most important finds from the Prehistory and Historical Archaeology Collection of the Province of Lower Austria illustrate everyday life as well as the artistic creativity and cultural life of our ancestors.
The Prehistory and Historical Archaeology Collection contains around 3 million objects, which offer a cross-section of the cultural history of Lower Austria from the Ice Age to the Middle Ages.

Interactive stations also invite visitors of all ages to experience these stories. How tricky is it to build a miniature longhouse? And how does the forging of copper, bronze or iron work?
Annually changing special exhibitions deepen the understanding of past living environments. Until 24 November 2024, the exhibition "Recorded! From cave painting to modern comics" can be seen until 24 November 2024.
The ARCHÄO BASIS offers a unique journey of discovery through 40,000 years of human history in Central Europe. The tour through three newly designed rooms on the ground floor of the castle offers animated films, digital games and information videos, in which the historical content of the museum is conveyed in an interactive and vivid way. Curiosity about experimental archaeology is also aroused by exhibited experiments and explanatory documentary films that accompany researchers in their work. With its modern and innovative design, the ARCHÄO BASIS offers the opportunity to explore prehistory, early history and the early Middle Ages in a playful way and gain an insight into archaeological work.
The archaeological outdoor area at MAMUZ Schloss Asparn/Zaya opens up a view of past living environments in Central Europe with faithful replicas of buildings from the Stone Age to the early Middle Ages. Huts made of clay and wood show the living and working areas from 40,000 years of human history. The furnishings of the dwellings and workshops show the life of our ancestors from a new perspective. These perspectives can also be experienced at a variety of historical festivals - when Stone Age hunters, Celts and Huns set up camp. Activity programmes and historical craft courses make it possible to experience history up close!
